I started my journey as a doula in 2019 when I trained with Nurturing Birth. It proved to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I started actively supporting people in March 2020, just as the pandemic hit. Having to adapt a new business and the support I wanted to give, was a huge learning curve but one that allowed me to throw myself wholeheartedly into doula work. In this space of time, I have been privileged enough to support a diverse number of people on their journeys. To walk alongside them as they have experienced one of the most amazing transformations in life, has felt like an honour.
I am passionate about people feeling empowered to have the birth and parenting experiences that are right for them; giving them space to really transform through their own power. I believe, as doulas, we need this space too so we can realise our own potential. This is why a became a mentor. Having been on this journey recently myself, I know how daunting taking the first steps to becoming a doula can be. You may have asked yourself some of these questions; How can I make this work fit into my life right now? How will I get my first client? Will I be enough when I do?
From my own experiences as a mentee, I know how important it is to have the space to safely explore these considerations. To be heard when talking about the things that matter to you and to be held when you explore your opportunities.
Being able to process these feelings and experiences, has helped me to continue to push through the challenges but also reminded me to really stop and appreciate my achievements along the way.
My mission as a mentor is to offer this same, safe space for transformation to other doulas on their own journeys.
