Nurturing Birth has been providing doula training courses in the UK and around the world since 2004, starting the journeys and supporting the development of over 3000 doulas.

Nurturing Birth is owned and run by Sarah Sayer, an experienced birth and postnatal doula of 15 years.

Sarah is supported by an incredible team of doulas, mentors and professionals in the pregnancy, birth and parenting worlds...

Meet The Team

Sarah Sayer, Owner and Facilitator

Sarah trained with Nurturing Birth in 2009 and loved the course so much she did it again a couple of years later. During the next 15 years she built a successful business in Bournemouth as a birth and postnatal doula, she also ran hypnobirthing group classes. Sarah joined the mentoring team for Nurturing Birth before becoming a course facilitator and eventually going on to buy the company in 2023. One of Sarahā€™s favourite things in the world is coffee. Living just 10 minutes away from the beautiful Dorset coastline, Sarah is also a beach fan and SUP enthusiast.

Sam Sheppard, Lead Course Facilitator

Sam has been part of the Nurturing Birth family since her doula training in 2008. Her knowledge of the doula world is invaluable and she shares many of her first-hand experiences and her great wisdom when facilitating the courses. Sam is neurodivergent and understands the struggles that this can bring to doula work. Away from the doula world, one of her big passions is her motorbike and she loves nothing more than a ride to the coast where she grounds herself by getting her feet wet in the sea.

Sara Do Vale, Course Facilitator

Sara trained as a doula with Nurturing Birth in 2014, and supports births inĀ many varied contexts, choices and situations. She is based in Portugal and has a very busy doula life.

It was in the stark contrast between birth options availableĀ to British and Portuguese women that she felt compelled to found the Portuguese Birth Rights Association to makeĀ human rights in pregnancy and birth become reality in Portugal. Sara is a wonderfully passionate birth worker.

Sara can often be found co-facilitating our online courses and our Lisbon based in-person courses. She is currently also a nurturing Birth mentor.

Danielle Fox, Mentoring Coordinator

Danielle is a valued member of the team and helps coordinate our unique mentoring program. Danielle has experienced all the highs and lows that doula life can bring and her passion to support the doulas who follow this path is second to none. Based in South Wales, Danielle is a huge horse fan and her happy place is riding her horse and losing herself in the beautiful countryside on her doorstep.

Simone Dyer, Course Facilitator

Simone trained as a doula with NB in 2019 and then joined the mentoring team in 2021 and now in 2024 is joining the Facilitator team!

Simone made her entry into Birth Work in 2016 working with Dr Gowri Motha and has been supporting women these past 7 years throughĀ birth & bodywork.

Simone is a lover of travel, nature and music. She is passionate about working with women and has held many nourishing spaces over the years including sacred women's circles & cacao ceremonies.

Sarah Newman, Admin Fairy

Sarah is a relatively new doula but has thrown herself into the world of doula support, her first role was supporting a lone twin parent navigating the early weeks of motherhood. Sarah is a yoga teacher and also enjoys meditating. One of her biggest passions is travelling and she has already had some amazing adventures around the world.
